Blessed

We are blessed.  Not a word I throw around lightly but we are truly blessed with our friends.  Last night was such a special night that I may very well tear up if I write too much about it.  Suffice to say that three men, Kenny Draznik, Paul Budin and Pat Dailey, know we've had some challenges of late and offered to come down and play some music for us. It was so good to have something to look forward to---something positive to focus on.  We invited a few friends over and potlucked it.  Then to top things off by happenstance we found some friends, Bernie, Wendy and Deb, were in town visiting that we hadn't seen in eons.....it was a wonderful night.  Kenny, Paul and Pat----Ernie and I thank you with all of our hearts.

Here's a clip that captures the spirit of the evening----Paul Budin doing some Ray Davies stuff with his voice, Kenny laughing as he plays and the inimitable Jeff Evans sitting in on drums (er, drum).  You can hear me laughing and Ernie singing along....and asking Leo if he wanted to go to bed....

Here you can see Leo checking on his Indiana Jones Lego museum that he set up on our coffee table.  This morning he seemed quite pleased with the number of tours he gave.

Sounded like fun. I found it funny they needed to read the lyrics for that song, though.

You have awesome friends. And I too cry when I'm really really mad. I'm glad I'm not the only one.

The best part of this video clip was to hear you and Ernie laughing! I wish I could have been there! See you soon.

Drive-in Theaters

  • Getting ready for the evening...
My friend Eileen says that the reason I've been so obsessed with drive-in movie theaters is because my parents never took me to one as a kid. She's probably right. She usually is. Reportedly my older sisters went to the drive-in but I have no memory of it. The first time I remember going to the drive-in theater was with Eileen and I think it was the summer before college. I remember eating dried apricots and some kind of warm pop while watching a bad movie with a Cheap Trick song on the soundtrack..... My friend Alice and I were in grad school together in the late 80's outside Detroit. We ended up photographing drive-in movie theaters throughout the midwest as well as brief trips to various other spots. We always said we were going to write a book but we never did. I just dug out the slides I have though and man, there were some great drive-ins!!! It's been twenty years so of course many of these are gone I'd love to hear from anyone if they have drive-in anecdotes or know if any of these are still around. I took some of the photos, Alice took some---I'll do the Lennon/McCartney things and just list us both on all of them. She can always switch the order of names after I die.
