A song for Dad and me
There was a little storage/work area off the back of my parents' old house. It was my father's domain,,,,he would putter around in there wearing his khaki colored work pants. I don't think I ever saw my father in a pair of jeans. When we got a 'new' stereo he put the old record player in there. I can still smell the slightly musty smell in there and see the old fold out phonograph...
The other night Ernie was playing various cds in the kitchen while he was getting ready to put something on the grill. I walked in the room just as he put this one on, saying "this is for you Cynthia" and I promptly burst into tears. My father loved this song and I can still hear it echoing from the storage room....
That's really sweet.
Does anyone else think it's odd that there are YouTube videos of records spinning? I know this was before the age of music videos, but seriously? I suppose it's just as strange as the "videos" consisting of a single static image, like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdra0GTRpRE

When I was about 6 we lived in Benedict Maryland, on the Patuxent River near a marina. They played music over loudspeakers that we could hear at home. I'll always remember that time when I hear Wolverton Mountain, Roses are Red and Ramblin Rose. 1962

You're right Jason...it is kind of funny to have just an image of a record playing. Shows the power of youtube actually---that even without a video people want to place things on it. But speaking as a child of vinyl....I love watching the record spin. I actually chose this over a clip of Nat King Cole singing...this captures it for me....
