After a train ride and lunch in Chattanooga we headed for Nashville. We got there later than we planned of course. I had planned to call some friends, maybe see if our beloved Kristi Rose were around for dinner or a drink…but somehow we were all a bit fried. Instead, we hung out in the hotel room a bit with the boys, got them dinner and then headed out to go for a drink before we went to see Eric Brace and Peter Cooper playing a round at Tin Pan South.
I had driven myself crazy looking up bars and restaurants on Yelp and the like but after following our phones' directions and dealing with traffic I threw my hands up and told Ernie it was up to him. So he drove us over to Brown’s Diner. We got out of the car and were standing in the parking lot trying to figure out whether we had to go around in front or if that was indeed a back door….and a big truck pulled up next to us. It had an extended cab and looking out from that back window was a surprised looking Sergio Webb.
You know….some times life really is good.
The driver got out and grinned at us and said, “Sergio says he knows you.” The whole group tumbled out, turns out it was Lynn Taylor and the Barflies and they had just finished a show. Sergio said, “Well, we have to get a beer” so they kindly trudged in and yes, I drank beer. I know. Could anyone be more delightful than Sergio? I certainly don't think so. Thanks to Lynn Taylor for kindly giving us some time to hang out with Sergio.
Eric and Peter were playing along with Jesse Lafser and Tim Easton at Belcourt Taps. We wandered over and got in our appointed line and who should show up but the wonderful Stacie Huckeba! Oh, and we finally got to meet Lindsay Hayes who has been so kind to us. She was great as well! And Lord but I love that Eric and Peter. Such lovely, lovely boys. They sounded wonderful and we loved both Jesse Lafser and Tim Easton. We were sitting by the door and as it began to fill up Brian Henneman walked in and said hi. I looked at Ernie and I could tell how he felt…..”wow….we’re with our people.”
The next day Sergio messaged me and said "Was yesterday a dream? or did I really see y'all in Brown's?" I knew just what he meant....it did kind of seem like a dream. A really wonderful dream.
Much love and thanks to Eric, Peter, Lindsay, Stacie and Sergio for making our brief stop in Nashville feel so very good.
Some crummy phone shots of mine above and then one I stole from facebook (if anyone thinks that's not o.k. just tell me).
