I am here. I am alive. I haven't been posting much because I've been a bit under the weather. Somewhat miserably under the weather to be honest. Lord, I haven't even posted about our triumphant lobster dinner with Amy and company. I will try to catch up.
Yesterday I had an upper endoscopy and I kid you not, the doctor walked in afterward and said, "It was interesting." INTERESTING, the curse of the Voelkl family's health. Anyway, it appears I have ulcers, which would account for some of my recent stomach misery. Ulcers and gastritis. We will have to wait for the results of the biopsies. The point of this was to try to figure out the reason for my resistance to absorbing B12, so the ulcers were the little bonus, I guess they were the INTERESTING part.
The endoscopy was fine. When I had similar anesthesia for a colonoscopy some years ago it didn't really knock me out and I pretty much heard and watched the whole thing, thinking, "When are they going to knock me out?" This time was different though and I was completely out, which I was happy to be. Ernie got me home later and I was a bit wobbly and bleary but fine.
While we were out, we finally got the last part of Leo's desk delivered. The delivery company tried calling me at the hospital, because no one can ever find our house, but we kept getting cut off. I frantically texted Ernie, who was going to the get the car to pick me up. Eventually I got a message that all was ok and it was delivered. It turns out they, as often happens, were at our address a block over. Owen tracked them down and then the guy said, "Are you 18?" I'd meant to tell Leo to say he was 18 if that came up. Owen said no, and the guy interrupted him and said, "Well, you're 18 today kid," so all was good.
So I wobbled into my chair and watched the boys putting things together for the desk. Eventually I migrated into the other room and took a bit of a nap. I was still exhausted when I woke up. For whatever reason I had not been able to sleep the night before, and that, and the anesthesia, and life in general....all added up. Ernie made dinner and I toddled to bed early and slept something like 11+ hours. And yet? I want a nap. I may take one.
Last night's dinner....somewhat indulgent as I hadn't eaten for 24 hours. Ernie grilled strip steaks and zucchini, made mashed potatoes and I halved a bunch of heirloom cherry tomatoes we bought from a student group outside the meat lap the other day....tossed with just salt, basil, and olive oil, they were heavenly.
