My friend Brenda posted on Facebook that she had a piano to give away. I immediately thought of Owen and the band...and even though it was school hours (I'm SORRY) I texted him and said, "Do you want a free piano?" He said, "Yes, hard yes!," so I messaged Brenda and said we'd take it. He asked Sue if he could use her truck but then we realized she had a topper...and you can't lay a piano flat...so I poked around online and found a truck rental, with a pull out ramp thingy, from Home Depot for $19.95. I kept telling Owen I thought he needed several people because pianos are very heavy. He assured me he and David were strong enough. I finally shrugged my shoulders. Our friend Steve had a dolly we could use so this morning Ernie and Owen headed over to pick it up. They got back here, with Steve (Lord I love him) and David showed up. It was utterly POURING however. I messaged Brenda and we figured we'd give it an hour. The rain finally let up so they all headed over to Home Depot and then to Brenda's. She sent me this picture as they victoriously led the piano out of the house...
She messaged me again and said they were having technical difficulties with the truck. Uh-oh. Eventually Ernie called me or came home...I can't even remember because the whole day was quite chaotic. The pull out ramp thingy on the truck wouldn't work. He went back to Home Depot and they said, "Oh. Yeah. That's broken." Gee, thanks. The guys had decided they would just wheel it home on the dolly. I raised my eyebrows and said, "Uh...okay...." Here they are, ready to start on their journey.
Ernie came home at that moment so I told him and I think he wanted to explode. He left with a hammer lol. I messaged Heather and said, "WHAT HAVE I DONE?" Her husband Steve called me and said he'd try to find another dolly. Man, I love him so much. Then Ernie called and said he was at U-Haul and he was buying two furniture dollies as they didn't seem to have a truck that would work. He called Steve and said to hold off and took off with his furniture dollies. Remember...it's pouring on and off this whole time. Oh, and at this point I frantically messaged work and said I didn't think I could be there when I was supposed to be, because Cyril's seats were in the living room and Ernie was trying to rescue a piano.
Reportedly, when Ernie was at U-Haul, Owen and David decided to just play the piano for the traffic passing by. Good God. Ernie returned and they got the piano on the dollies, and they headed off. Ernie came home and got gloves, etc to bring back to them. And they slowly rolled on. Key word? Slowwwwly. It started raining again and Ernie went to check on them. It was kinda sad.
Ernie continued to check on them but it was VERY slow going. He went back to U-Haul and somebody else was there and they figured out a truck that Ernie could use. He texted me and said they were on their way home in a U-Haul. They pulled up and Owen and David burst into the house soaking wet. I must say David seemed to hold up much better than my dramatic son. Ernie started a fire in the fireplace so they could warm up some, but before they got too comfortable they went out to get the piano off the truck and into their little nest in the garage. Leo helped. I got too cold watching so there are no final pictures...sorry. Everyone tumbled back in and Ernie offered to go get them a very late lunch as it was 3:30 or 4:00 at that point (mind you...they had started at 9:00 am). We fed the boys and listened to Rod Picott's Concert Window show of Fortune...which was incredible...and when the tornado sirens started going off in Nashville it made it all the better.
I just keep giggling. And giggling.
Oh, and then I remembered this Anne McCue video!
Life IS good.
