We gave Leo his birthday present a few days early. I couldn't resist. He turns 14 on Tuesday, and thanks to the trust that Judi left for the boys, we were able to get him what he wanted with ALL his heart: his own computer.
They got home from school and Owen claimed the computer, Leo clomped upstairs sadly but then a few minutes later we called him down. We said we wanted to talk to him. Big sighs.....and then Owen pulled the blanket off the computer box.
My baby is so happy.
They raced upstairs and set everything up with no help from me. Sniff. They cleared his desk of Lego and put the iMac, in all its glory, in place. You know what my favorite thing is? That Leo then went and got two of his favorite train engines and set them next to the computer. It's the nerve center of Leo....and when I stuck my head in to see, he just stroked the Big Boy engine with one finger and said, "See what I did?"
That boy just kills me.
He's always good with sweet kisses and 'I love you's' but we got quite a few extra last night. Nothing better than a happy Leo. The whole family felt light last night.
So now when you want to bother him at a house concert you'll have to go upstairs to do it.
Tonight, for the rest of us? MALCOLM HOLCOMBE, WITH MATT BRANDABUR! There's still space left and a beautiful batch of ratatouille if I DO say so myself.....
