I took off work a bit early yesterday. I'll have to work later than usual tomorrow to make up for it but it was well worth it. Owen had asked me to go to a movie with him. I asked if he was sure he didn't want to include Leo and his Dad and he said he wanted it to be just us. Well hell, when you have an almost 16 year old ask his mother on a date....said mother can't very well say no, huh? The problem was the movie he wanted to see was either at 4 pm or 9:30 pm. Uh....hell no, I'm not going to a LONG 9:30 pm movie on a work night. He'd be fine but I wouldn't. So I arranged to get off a bit early. Ernie picked me up and zipped me home where we met Owen just home from school. Owen and I took off in Cyril, stopping to buy snacks at Walgreens. We were running late and there was a long line that wasn't moving. Finally a second person came up and said they could help the next person. A woman from behind us in line zipped over ahead of us. We shook our heads and eventually headed back to Cyril. As we got in the car Owen said, "You know Mom, we were both irritated with that woman but she was buying gas relief so I think we came out ahead." Lord that boy amuses me. I agreed and we giggled all the way to the Savoy. We were late but it meant we missed the endless previews. When I was a kid I loved the previews, now, not so much. Of course that may just be because most of the movies look horrid to me.
We saw Bladerunner 2049. I never saw the original but when Owen asked I said, "Harrison Ford is in it, right?" He said yes so I said the same. The movie? Eh. There was lots of snow and smoke and dark futuristic/junkyard settings, killings and fake naked women, many of them huge with odd nipples. I bitched a bit about that but Owen told me the movie was making a statement about our society. Yeah, whatever. It was LONG and I was somewhat bored until I got to watch Harrison Ford. As Owen said, Harrison Ford plays Harrison Ford, but that's fine by me. We watched the credits and we both kept saying, "uhhh, I don't know...." As we walked out the last couple in the theater followed us and said, "What did you think?" We both said, "Eh, I don't know..." again and they agreed. "Tedious," they said, "Nothing like the original." We headed out to find Cyril with a note under one of his windshield wipers from a VW admirer, saying 'Don't change a thing.'
Driving over to Fiesta Cafe was an interesting experience. Owen assured me the heat was on but my job was to hold a cloth mitt so he could periodically wipe the inside of the windshield clear. I had tacos, he had enchiladas, he had water, I had a margarita. The waiter was great so Owen made me tip him like crazy. Remind me to never order three tacos again....way, way, way too much even after I gave Owen one. Of course I may have had too many chips. I'm a sucker for warm chips.
We got home happy but tired and full. Ernie was watching American Pickers. I can't abide that show....I don't know how the hell he watches it. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me, even though by all rights you'd think I'd like it. I happily left him to that and streamed a couple of episodes of Poldark on the laptop before we sleepily made our way to bed.
This afternoon we're off to the oncologist and tomorrow morning I have to get a pre-op physical for my upper endoscopy later in the month. On top of that, I can't quite wrap my head around the fact that tomorrow is Friday again.
Onward.
