A few more pictures of Bingo's. I wish I'd walked down to get pictures of the gas station and restaurant. Sometimes I'm too quick when I take pictures. I need to take my time. Anyway....probably my favorite spot from the wander.
I am slowly being driven crazy by things like Google, Eventbrite, our President, cancer, and our country in general. And yes, for God's sake that needed an Oxford comma. Oh, and I hacked off a little too much hair late last night.
Whoops.
However, we just received the News-Gazette's People's Choice booklet in the mail. Lo and behold there is a picture on the cover from Krannert Center's opening night last fall. And who is standing right there in the middle of the crowd? Why my two blondes! One with a ponytail and one with a bit of a man bun. My sweet peas.
And now a few more pictures from the Wander....just to ease our troubled minds.
Last of the season raspberries from Farmer Greg. Just heavenly.
I love Affy Tapples. Ernie always buys them for me when he sees them. I remember in grade school we'd order them in the fall and it was a big deal when they came in. It's not that I love the taste all that much..it just signifies the excitement of fall to me. I reminded Ernie that there was an Affy Tapple factory near us in Rogers Park. It's long gone of course but I dug up a picture online to remind him. Why did we never go and get the broken stick apples for a quarter?
Bratwurst on a gluten free bun. So-so but the little batch of kohlrabi/apple slaw was delightful!
I usually cut back these asters early summer so they don't go crazy. Silver lining to being lazy? They went crazy.
The first thing I saw when I woke up was the news that Angie Heaton had passed. While we knew it was coming, it still hits hard. You think you've prepared yourself, but there is no way to truly prepare yourself now is there?
Fucking cancer.
I didn't know Angie as well as many of her friends did. And, oh lord did she have friends. I hope she had an inkling of how much she was loved. We had kind of a friends of friends thing going but then she reached out really kindly to me when Ernie was struggling a bit at one point and we became better friends. I felt like we got each other but then again, she probably made everybody feel that way. And we bonded a bit over Bill Chambers. I mean, who else gives people the shirt off their back, literally? Angie.
I must be honest, that in addition to grieving Angie, it was a hard day because every time I see someone die of cancer it hits me right in the stomach. Later I opened my email to see an email in response to a form Ernie fills out online weekly, confirming that he was having increased pain. And then I saw that Eddie Van Halen had died, proving that money and access to any care you want is no match for cancer.
Fucking cancer.
It was a hard day.
I send my utmost love to all that are grieving Angie. She was a fierce and beautiful spirit.
We went out to dinner with the boys for the first time since...mmm...February, I guess. We had to go to Fries and Peanuts, of course. When we planned this we had hoped to sit outside but it was far too cold. Ernie and I had visited a few weeks ago for a drink outside and had been impressed with the way they handling everything. They are strict about masks and everyone has to have them on when a server comes to the table. They put plexi between the booths and all the bar stools are removed as well as many tables. I think they're doing as good a job as anybody can do. So off we went.
Dennis even stopped by with a gift for Leo. It was a lovely night. Not quite normal, but pretty close. Thanks for all the birthday wishes for Leo. The original sweet pea. ❤️
